Maximum Length: Commonly 12+ inches depending on species
Favorite Things: Soft sand substrate, driftwood, caves, and dim lighting. These eels enjoy burrowing and hiding, emerging at feeding time. They thrive on frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, blackworms, and small sinking carnivore pellets.
Best Buddies: Peaceful tankmates too large to fit into the eel’s mouth—ideal companions include rainbowfish, larger barbs, peaceful cichlids, and loaches. Avoid small tetras, shrimp, and nano fish. Provide a tight lid, as these eels are known escape artists.
